Lately i’ve seen so many people arguing over whether 2019 is a different world from today or exactly the same (with or without the pandemic). I think both those statements can be true at once. 2019 is very similar to the present day in terms of technology, youth culture, casual fashion, etc. It was only 3 years ago after all, so inevitably it shares many similarities to 2022. But at the same time, 2019 is very much different in the sense that it was of course pre-covid, which itself is a big thing. The Covid era has effected the culture of the early 2020s socially, economically, and even politically to an extent. And with music and fashion trends changing like they do every year, and gen z culture becoming even more noticeable, 2022 is bound to feel a little bit different from 2019.
In conclusion, no one’s really right or wrong

What is eery is that I am sure back in 2002, people were having these same arguments about 1999 because of 9/11. I do not believe 2022 is a different world from 2019, even with COVID, social distancing, masks, PS5, and Biden. The way people consume pop culture, use technology, and social media, go about their lives in 2022 is practically the same as in 2019. 2019 is not core 2010s anymore. 2022 is not core 2020s. We would have to wait until 2023 at the earliest for the core 2020s to start imo. I do not believe in the future people will look back at the 2020s and say that 2022 was one of the defining years of the decade. I also do not think people will look back at the 2010s and say that 2019 was one of the defining years of that decade. I predict the 2020s will be more changeful than the 2010s, almost to the point that by the time we are in 2028, 2022 will seem like a different world and still barely removed from the late 2010s. I will not be surprised if in 2028, people include 2022 at the tail end of 2010s pop culture. This happens every decade 1982 - Are we that far removed from the 1970s new culture here yet ? ( despite everything we know now) 1992 - Are we that far removed from the 1980s new culture here yet ? ( despite everything we know now) 2002 - Are we that far removed from the 90s, new culture here yet ? ( despite everything we know now) 2012 - Are we that far removed from the 2000s, new culture here yet ? ( despite everything we know now) You guys are playing right into the trap lol

I'm starting to see 2019 vs 2022 similar to 2000 vs 2003, with 2001 and 2020 being the "shift" years. Similar but different, and Y2K era in 2000 = late 2010s in 2019.
Y2K had some small influence until early 2004, could be the same with late 2010s until late 2022 or early 2023.

No one says 2019 is the same as today, just not a completely different multiverse like some people make it out to be.
