It's ironic seeing all these EDM and hip-hop popstars desperately genre hopping to pop rock in 2020-2022.
It's basically the reverse of what happened in 2009-2011, when a bunch of pop rock artists genre hopped to EDM and hip-hop

It's basically the reverse of what happened in 2009-2011, when a bunch of pop rock artists genre hopped to EDM and hip-hop one hip hop artist switched fully to pop punk. Rap music is still strong. Trippie Redd and 24kGoldn are mixing the genres together.

one hip hop artist switched to pop punk. Rap music is still strong. Trippie Redd and 24kGoldn are mixing the genres together. more than 1 I'm just getting really sick of the idea here that rap music is dying when it's alive and strong and the most creative genre out right now. Retro pop, pop punk, etc. aren't creative and are ripping of what was creative 40, 20 years ago. Hyperpop is pretty much the only other creative genre right now, and it's underground. Trap evolved, it isn't 2018 anymore... Also, look at the charts, there's more rap than pop punk there. Not saying pop punk isn't popular, but rap also is definitely not dying...

I also don't consider this Chainsmokers song to be pop punk, despite the fact it does have some influence. It's still an EDM song. The guitar needs to be the dominant instrument for it to be true pop punk.

If this is the trend where things are going in the mid 2020s, then I'm all on board. Not exactly new or unique but at least it's different from the constant EDM we were hearing in the 2010s.
