Let's say the pop culture gets better by the mid or late 2020s which I hope it does, will people still say it sucks because the mid and late 2020s may still be in the COVID or post-COVID era?
I'm asking because I remember people hating on years like 2002 and onwards because 2002 was the first full post 9/11 year. Like even in 2008-2012, people would make stupid claims such as 2002 being the exact same as then. I disagree with both of those claims. I loved 2002 pop culturally and personally. I also don't believe 2002 is the exact same as 2008. 2002 isn't even the exact same as 2004 or 2005.

It's weird because in 2008 people were already feeling nostalgic about 2001 and 2002, the forum RetroJunk has posts from 08/09 school year looking back on that period with quite fondness.

No I think it will 2020-now will suck because of the content of the period first and foremost and what was produced irrespective of covid, people tend to block or forget the bad times and look at content. I can't say anything original or groundbreaking happened in 2020 and 2021 had a few vague changes which should have happened earlier, more like breadcrumbs compared to nothing. If the pandemic is worse but by 2026-27 pop culture is more innovative, original and interesting and movies spike in quality, the immersive and totally new tech is the norm and fashion is more practical, interesting and not tumblresque reference to gimmicky exaggerated Y2K aesthetics based on PlayStation ads and funky music videos that not everyone looked like back in the day then yes.
