You could make that connection. 80s has strong parallels with the 00s.

I also feel there's parallels between old-school YouTube and indie videotapes. For the latter, I'm talking stuff like the infamous "You on Kazoo" tape.

House music was also popular in both eras, with the garage house style getting traction in the late 80s, while electrohouse booming in the late 00s.

-Nintendo is huge -Cheaply animated cartoons -Glossy aesthetics -Economic crash -Rise in electronic music which really explodes the next era -Cheesy rap songs -Rising environmental awareness What do you think? it was mostly a response to the edginess and "adult" themes of 01-06 on a un-subconscious level, even tho you had Vice City and Vh1 transforming itself into a 80s reality star network, the overarching themes of sex, materialism and conformity still ran rampant in the 2000s to about late 06/mid 07 territory. You still saw it in 2008 and 2009 but it was clear the tide was changing to something more light heated in music and even tv. The rise of Disney Teen Pop Mega era goes right along with it.
