Counterbalancing the "Journalists/Presenters you Dislike" thread, here's one for the opposite end of the scale, the media personalities you like and respect.
To get the ball rolling, here's some of mine.
*Juanita Phillips - With a newsreading career spanning Ten, Sky News Australia, the BBC and CNN, this is a newsreader who could probably make it on a major national network news bulletin overseas. But she's the main presenter of the ABC's 7pm news here in NSW, and probably an underrated one at that.
*Graham Creed - Sydney's best weather presenter (sorry, David Brown) and another example of underrated talent at the ABC in this market.
*Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta, Kylie Gillies, Larry Emdur - Although I'm not a particular fan of Sunrise or The Morning Show, these presenters are pretty good IMO.
*Michael Usher - Seven News Sydney did well in picking him up last year, but I wish he was presenting on Sunday-Thursday!
*Peter Overton and Cameron Williams - They've been many great news presenters in the Sydney market over the years but very few currently on the air have the potential to become icons. Although there'll never be another Hendo & Kenny (those two weren't just Sydney's best ever news/sports presenters, they were TV news/sport in Sydney for many years!), Pete & Cam has the potential to become very close to one for Nine News Sydney IMO.
*Deborah Knight - Unlike many other talented news presenters who've been let go from Ten in recent years, Deb's career has done nothing but thrive during her time at Nine in recent years. I'm rather happy that she'll become the 2nd in-line presenter for Nine News Sydney in 2018 and I'd go as far as saying that if in the unlikely chance Peter Overton was to leave anytime soon, Deb would probably become the next lead newsreader for Nine Sydney.
*Peter Hitchener - Although I don't get to see him read the news that often (for obvious reasons), he is a fantastic presenter for Nine News Melbourne and one that the city should feel very lucky to have in this day and age.
*Jane Goldsmith - Probably the best newsreader currently at NBN News. IMO her presenting style is of weeknight quality but if she prefers being the Lee Lin Chin of NBN News, then so be it!
*Sandra Sully, Hugh Riminton, Natarsha Bellling - With all the departures and mass sakings in recent years, they're probably the best and most experienced newsreaders that are still at Network Ten.
*Sarah Harris, Jessica Rowe, Denise Drysdale - what's not to love about these ladies from Studio 10?!
*Lee Constable - I first came across her talents via the community radio program/podcast "Soapbox" a few years ago, although she's since gone onto become a brilliant presenter for the science-based children's program "Scope" on Eleven who isn't patronising or over the top like some children's presenters (such as the hosts of Toasted TV, from the same network) can be at times. Although I'm well outside the target market, I do have to say that if I was a 10 year old (or whatever age) kid today, I'd probably enjoy watching Scope with Lee Constable!
*Amanda Keller - A great presenter on both radio & TV.
*Glenn Daniel, Steve Blanda, Ron Wilson - Although the departure of these three iconic and experienced Sydney radio newsreaders from their previous positions was less than voluntary, I'm rather glad we can still hear them on Smooth 95.3 throughout weekdays.
*Lui Zacher - Although currently in a more behind the scenes role in regional radio, he was a great breakfast radio presenter during his time at Max FM Taree and probably also on Mixx FM in Horsham when he was there. Also a good bloke all round, judging by my previous online interactions with him.
There are probably more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Of course I'd be very interested to hear what others think!
