It's been growing since 2017/2018 with Playboi Carti and Trippie Redd but I think it peaked in 2021, or maybe it will in 2022.

Isn't this just a variation of bubblegum trap? (Lil Yachty style?) That came and went in 2017.

I think this style really took over rap after Whole Lotta Red dropped. The sound was there with Die Lit but it was unique for hip hop at the time.

Yeah it was there back in 2017/2018 but it really blew up in 2021. The hype for Whole Lotta Red created a whole new wave of rap. Even rappers who have their own sound are using some influences.
