Inspired by another thread comparing 1994 with 1988 and 2000. Is 1998 more similar to early 90s 1992, or mid 00s 2004?

Let’s talk movies. Like usual, this is a case-by-case basis on whether the movie leans more toward one or the other. Here are my thoughts on each of these movies:
Armageddon - 2004 Saving Private Ryan - IDK Mulan - 1992 A Bugs Life - 2004 Antz - 2004 There’s Something About Mary - 2004 Quest For Camelot - 1992
Overall I’d say movies were more like 2004. The main exception is that the Disney Renaissance was still ongoing in 1998. However, 1998 was when Dreamworks entered the scene, and Pixar really came into their own with A Bugs Life. Said movie did better than Mulan at the box office, and for this reason, I consider it closer to 2004 for animated movies as well.
For video games, I’m not even gonna bother with making comparisons. Pretty much all of them are closer to 2004 for obvious reasons.

2004 easily
- the youth culture of 1998 and 2004 leaned millennial while 1992 was strictly gen x
- a lot of the tv shows that were on air in 1998 were also on air in 2004 (That’s 70s Show, Will & Grace, PowerPuff Girls, etc.) since some culturally 00s shows started around 1998-99. Even some core 90s shows like Friends and Frasier were still on air in both years
- a lot of music acts from 2004, and the 00s as a whole, started to pop up or gain popularity by 1998 (Britney Spears, Beyoncé with Destinys Child, Justin Timberlake with Nsync, Usher, Jay-Z)
- the music of 1998 would fit more in 2004 than in 1992 mostly
- cell phones, computers, and internet were popular to some degree in both 1998 and 2004 (of course more popular in 2004). In 1992 the internet wasn’t public, cell phones were rare, and computers were less common in homes
- you could still get away with a lot of fashion from 1998 in 2004, unlike fashion from 1992 in 1998
- 1992 just looks and seems more dated in 1998 than 1998 looks and seems in 2004

IMO the 5th and 6th Gen of gaming are quite similar to each other, much like the 3rd and 4th Gen.

I think by 1998 cartoons on cable TV had firmly taken hold vs Saturday morning/syndication cartoons. You could argue it occurred in 1996 or 1997.

2004 for sure. 1998 still had a 90s feel to it, but it was the year where many 2000s trends were being born such as Pepsi Blue logo, Soutern Hip-Hop being more mainstream, The year Pokemon first debut in North America, and when 3D gaming was in full-effect.

I will admit, 1998 is evenly split when it comes to this, but I would slightly say 2004, although both 1992 and 1998 are equally in the core 90's but on opposite ends (1998 is slightly closer to the core 90's imo). But then again, 1998 is pretty millennium as well and 2004 is the very last possible year of the millennium era. One reason why 1998 should be closer to 2004 is the fact that I could've sworn this song came out in 2004 when it actually came out in 1998.
That's all you need to know for an answer.
