Now that we are in the third year of the 2020s, and with a pandemic having changed normal life as we know it, I can officially declare the 2010s as dead. With this in mind, let’s look back on the Web of the 2010s. I think we can all agree that MySpace is the defining website of the 2000s, but what about the 2010s? For this, two things: one, it has to be a major website that lots of people used, and two, it has to be a website that’s NOT popular anymore now in the 2020s. I have three potential candidates to list. The first, and by far biggest is Facebook. Whilst Facebook is still popular today amongst older people, it is increasingly bleeding users, and young people have moved on to other platforms. I distinctly remember at the site’s peak in 2012, much like MySpace did in 2006, Facebook actually surpassed Google to become the #1 most popular website on the internet. Google themselves later copied Facebook to create the ill-fated failed social network of Google+. The second is Tumblr. Tumblr became big in 2011, and peaked during the mid-2010s, becoming infamous for its presence of SJWs. It gradually declined in 2017, and truly died off in 2018, after their infamous porn ban. So it was predominantly popular pretty much through the core 2010s, and lived and died with it. Lastly, we have Vine. Though not as long-lived as Facebook as Tumblr, it is notable for only being a 2010s website, launching in 2013, and shutting down in 2017. This site was famous for all the memes that spawned with, a defining part of 2010s culture. The site peaked during the 2015-2016 school year, which is often considered to be the peak of the 2010s by many on this website. So, of these websites, which one do you think really defined the decade? If you want, you can put your own suggestion.

Instagram. Facebook is mainly a late 00s early 10s thing, since 2013 instagram has been far more dominant in regards to pop culture.

I guess so but I still think it's the quintessential 2010s website. TikTok has stole it's thunder anyway. It is much more relevant to the 10s than the 20s thanks to TikTok and the fact that it exploded into popularity during the 10s.

Yeah but it’s not like it’s no longer popular the same way all the websites I’ve listed are. You still see people talking about Instagram regularly. It’s still part of our culture.

Early 2010s Late 2000s was mostly the MySpace era Facebook overtook myspace mid 2008 MySpace was still relevant until 2010. My point is that Facebook didn’t define the late 2000s like they did the early 2010s. Just watch the movie The Social Network from 2010.

Obviously Tumblr
Half of the aesthetics that became popular in the 2010s came from Tumblr. It also died with the 2010s.

Early 2010s Late 2000s was mostly the MySpace era Facebook overtook myspace mid 2008 Once again gotta prove you wrong with actual facts and statistical data, this is when it really took over everyone. It is not toxic for showing concrete evidence backed by data.

Facebook overtook myspace mid 2008 MySpace was still relevant until 2010. My point is that Facebook didn’t define the late 2000s like they did the early 2010s. Just watch the movie The Social Network from 2010. I would say for maybe 2 months of 2010, but when the redesign hit it was a wrap, as you can see from my graph above, it totally disputes Nightmares incorrect statement about 2008. As you have said previously Myspace was 100% popular in the late 2000s, even if it fell off a bit it was still popular as Facebook rose 2007 and up.
