Lively - 2014 through 2016 Dead - 20172017 was when trump was inaugurated, fidget spinner craze happened and the switch came out. I mean sure, you could say it was a negative year(the first half was the worst part of my fuckin life) but you sure about dead?

The fidget spinner craze died off incredibly quickly though, in comparison the Fortnite craze in 2018 lasted for months. I'd say 2017 pop culture was kind of bland and forgettable, and was revived a bit when TikTok got its rebranding in early 2018 (not to say TikTok is great or anything, but at least it felt a little more alive).

Youth culture felt empty that year.

OH MY FUCKING GOD! JAKE PAUL, THE EMOJI MOVIE, THE BOSS BABY, THE LAST JEDI, LIL PUMP, DEMONETIZATION, DONALD TRUMP, SHOOTINGS! THIS YEAR CAN GO BURN IN HELL.

I think pop culture actually started becoming livelier in 2018 honestly, thanks to things like Black Panther, Smash Ultimate, TikTok, Fortnite, and Avengers: Infinity War. It just felt like it had more personality and soul than 2017. It wasn’t a great year either, but still better than 2017. I also honestly don’t think of 2010 as being that lively to be completely honest. Core 2010s culture still wasn’t established yet, and with the much more customizable, youth-oriented, and overall fun MySpace being replaced with the bland-as-hell Facebook. We hadn’t reached peak Angry Birds/Minecraft/trollface/brony mode like we did in 2011/2012, so it ended up feeling a lot like 2009 with that very empty kind of vibe.

Liveliest 2015 2016 2013 2012 2014 2018 2011 2019 2010 2017 Deadest
Not the BEST years of the 2010s, but rather which years have the most personality and energy, and which years are, well, lacking. Liveliest in my opinion would easily be 2015. There's just so much you can say about the pop culture of that year: hipsters, Vine, Filthy Frank, MLG memes, Five Nights and Freddy's, Undertale, Donald Trump announcing his run for president, gay marriage, GoAnimate videos, Minecraft videos and animations (even Story Mode came out this year), The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, peak selfie, Twenty One Pilots, Windows 10. Even just two or three of these present at once would make for an energetic year, but all of them combined gave the year an exciting vibe throughout. Deadest would be 2017. Everything I just posted died off that year, and besides certain things like Donald Trump becoming president, the Switch's release, and fidget spinners, it just had a very empty and soulless vibe to it.

The revisionism with 2017 is appalling... It's like people choose a random late 10s year to hate on after they got bored with making 2016
2017 was a huge year for pop culture: we had Despacito, Shape of you, Nintendo Switch, Solar Eclipse, Fidget Spinners, Doki Doki Literature Club, Cuphead, Horizon Zero Dawn, Breath of the Wild, Spider-man homecoming, LOGAN. Netflix was pumping hit series after hit series
Why do people try to make 2017 out to be the most boring year of the 2010s is beyond me. 2018 is right there and it was MUCH deader than 2017.

That is simply not true Fidget spinner wete popular all throughout 2017 Not at all, it was pretty much a dead trend by fall. May 2017 was the trend's peak and didn't even survived the summer. In fact, people were quick to point of how incredibly quickly the trend flamed out: "The term hit its peak popularity on Google search in mid-May, and like most trends, quickly started to fizzle. The term “fidget spinner” first appeared on Google trends sometime between Jan. 29 and Feb. 4. The term increased in usage rapidly for the next few months, peaking on May 6 in the U.S. Data from payment platform Square confirms interest is waning. Slice Intelligence, too, shows a downward trajectory: online sales of the toy peaked on May 5 before making its descent."fortune.com/2017/06/13/the-fidget-spinner-trend-is-ending-and-you-missed-it/amp/
