I think 2008 was the second most transformative 2000s year. Superhero movies were already super common by 2008. In fact, I think movies already started going downhill around 2007/2008 due to superhero movies + Transformers + Twilight. I also went with 2017 for music because that’s when mumble rap took over the music industry and became the ONLY thing you’d hear.

Also, most transitional year of the 2000s for tech: 2006. Social media and smartphones (albeit not touchscreen phones) blew up that year.

2000s:
Movies: 2008 Music: 2009 Video Games: 2001(closely followed by 2007) Politics: 2008 Technology/Internet: 2008 or 2009 Overall: 2008 2010s: Movies: 2016(That's when we started constantly being bombarded with superhero shyte and also when the woke trend started with Ghostbusters 2016) Music: 2013 Video Games: 2013 Politics: 2016 Technology/Internet: 2011(Smartphones, nuff said) Overall: 2016 I largely agree or can see these takes. I think 2008 was the second most transformative 2000s year. I would say 2008 is bigger because you had a lot of big shifts like the stock market crash, first black president, HDTV boom and facebook taking off. 2001 had 9/11 and a standard pop culture shift. I'd say 2001 is 2nd or 3rd most transitional though. >Superhero movies were already super common by 2008. 2008 was a big year for superhero movies with Iron Man and The Dark Knight but it was pretty much a one off back then. Afterwards superhero movies weren't neccessarily that big in popularity even if you'd expect to see one or two popular superhero movies each year. But since 2016 it feels like the movie market has been oversaturated with them and this really culminated where in 2019 you'd just see superhero movie after superhero movie and even one of the biggest movies that year that wasn't a superhero movie was still set in a superhero world(joker). For music I pick 2013 because that's when electropop died out. Mumble rap started becoming popular in late 2017 but you started seeing it everywhere early 2018. May differ depending on your area though.

They were pretty much inescapable after that.

Ok maybe they got more popular after 2012 but it's really 2016 when they became completely inescapable and you were bombarded with them in every direction. Before 2016 you'd see usually like 2 or 3 popular superhero movies and mind you the MCU back then was no where near as popular as it was in the late 10s. Since 2016 and up until 2020, you see literally half a dozen or more each year.

All of those movies combined pale in comparison to the popularity of the last two avengers movies. Also my point is 2016-2019 had a lot more popular superhero movies.

That’s because they were the end of the Infinity Saga of COURSE they were more popular, much like how Harry Potter’s biggest movies were the Deathly Hallows ones. Finales ALWAYS attract tons of attention, both for TV and movies.
