I started noticing it in 2015 IRL but on the internet it wasn't until the late 10s when political correctness properly took over. I always thought 2016 was very PC on the internet but when I took a look back on this 6 year old reddit post there was this guy who called someone a fa-word in plain sight and didn't get his comment removed or banned, he also got upvotes. Mind you this is reddit, not 4chan. The R word is also banned now.

Definitely the mid 2010s, probably 2014 or 2015. Reddit was still pretty edgy in 2016, as were many corners of the internet, but that was more a counter reaction against the growing influence of political correctness. Still, would not use Reddit as an indicator of how PC society is lol. I think Tumblr is a much better representation of 2010s culture and what was trendy in the decade.

The fact that someone in late 2016 called someone the fa-word in plain sight on reddit(which I know is a lefty site which makes this even more surprising) goes to show that 2016 was still mostly pre PC on the internet.

On reddit it was the norm back then to say "OP is a f**gt" when you didn't like a post. Also using gay and the r-slur as an insult. And I'm talking about the front page, mind you. Also the site was mostly libertarian back then, early/mid 10s style pre-crypto pre-nft pre-2016 insanity kinda libertarianism

If anything, it was known as a libertarian neckbeard platform. Tumblr was the site known for SJWs. And IMO, I’d say Tumblr was the site that really best represented the 2010s anyway, especially in retrospect.
