Decades can be innovative in two different ways. Some decades place emphasis on social progress and protest/activist culture. Others place greater emphasis on technological progress and escapism (sci-Fi movies, video games). I’ve ALWAYS preferred the latter, especially because we’re very much living in the former kind of world now, and have been since at least the mid 2010s (as indicated by events like Gamergate). But where would you place decades on this spectrum?

Most tech oriented decades:
1. 1990s 2. 2000s 3. 1980s 4. 1950s
Most political oriented decades:
1. 1960s 2. 2010s 3. 1970s
I won't rank anything before the 50s because it's just too alien
60s fit both, they were very futuristic and very political at the first time
My prediction: the 2020s will be mostly tech-oriented

When I think of the early 60s, I think of The Jetsons, Space Age pop, and the Space Needle.

I’ll help you with older decades. The 40s were politics-centric for obvious reasons but still had major technological innovation from the war. The 20s was mostly technological with certain social progress made in regards to women’s rights. The 1910s are the same as the 40s. And I don’t know jackshit about the 30s so…

I think the first half of the 70s were more political, largely following in the wake of the counterculture. The second half, however, started seeing more technological innovation and a sharp backlash against the hippie movement. Instead of the nature-oriented and peace and love vibes of the hippies, we instead got a mixture of heavily urban tech oriented vibes mixed with a greater sense of cynicism and aggression, which really came full force during the 80s, as exemplified by movies like Blade Runner and The Terminator.
