In terms of aesthetics. This is how I'd rank them:
Minimalistic 1. Mid 2010s (the era of Windows 8, flat design, and simple colors. What makes this era more minimalistic than the late 2010s is that at least the late 2010s had gradients, whereas the mid 2010s was all about flat colors) 2. Late 2010s (largely the same as the mid 2010s, but with gradients, and maybe a bit more 3D effects (but not as much compared to the early 2020s)) 3. Late 1990s (this is probably the most minimalistic non-2010s era. This era takes on a much more subdued vibe compared to the grungy mid 90s, in favor of clean yet futuristic aesthetics.) 4. Early 2010s (Early 2010s aesthetics as a whole are not quite minimalistic yet unlike the mid-late 2010s, but still more minimalistic compared to the late 2000s. Early 2010s aesthetics in general are sort of like a cleaner, more minimalistic version of late 2000s aesthetics. Think Windows 7 or early Android phones. Companies like Nickelodeon, Pepsi, Google Chrome, and Cartoon Network have already changed their logos to be more minimalistic) 5. Early 1990s (this was the peak of Memphis and tessellation style aesthetics, with some lingering 80s remnants, though by this point, much of the maximalism of that decade was gone. The aesthetics of this era were highly influential to modern-day minimalistic aesthetics) 6. Early 2000s (the early 2000s can be thought of as a flashier version of the late 90s. Think Matrix-inspired metallic aesthetics for the early 00s. The urban-influenced minimalism of the late 90s was dead by this point. Operating systems like Windows XP and Mac OS X were WAY flashier than their earlier counterparts.) 7. Mid 1990s (the mid 90s were supposed to be a backlash against the flashiness of the 80s, more stripped down and minimalistic. Instead, it ended up looking very over-the-top, and being all edgy and extreme. Extreme closeups and highly detailed grunge aesthetics defined this era.) 8. Mid 2000s (at this point, we've entered pure 80s-revivalism maximalism. This era is defined by flashy materialism, exemplified by things like Pimp My Ride, 50 Cent songs, and Midnight Club.) 9. Late 2000s (you all saw this one coming. The era where McBling and Frutiger Aero, two of the flashiest aesthetics of all time, coexisted in popularity. Windows Vista represented the tech aesthetics of this era, whilst trashy reality shows and ringtone rap were still hugely popular) Maximalistic

popedia.boards.net/thread/6632/late-90s-early-00s-minimalismFor the record this particular brand of minimalism still had influence even in the early 00s, hence why it's the most minimalistic era of the 2000s. I'd say that particular aesthetic did not die off until 2003, when McBling fully took over. Part of what makes the late 90s more minimalistic than the early 00s is the fact that Windows XP and Mac OS X had yet to come out, so skeuomorphism wasn't a thing yet, yet the loud extreme closeup grunge aesthetics of the mid 90s were dead, so the end result was 1997-2000 being a more chilled out era compared to before and after.

Slow, toned down and soft.

Yeah mellow and laid back is how I would describe many of the songs during that time period. I kinda still don’t really like it for some reason. Although the late 2000s were more energetic and I feel like the vibe isn’t really similar aside from the technology. What about the mid 2010s, how will they be remembered
