It's like the final episode of a season of a TV show which debuts stuff that shows up the next season near the end of the episode.

yeah even if at the time it still felt very late 10s, in hindsight mid-late (especially late) 2019 really felt like it was setting up the early 20s:
-tiktok started being ubiquitous
-wireless earbuds were common
-joe biden and kamala harris are prominent political figures
-iphone 11 comes out (first iphone with 2-3 cameras)
-disney+ is released
-early 20s singers are all established by then (doja cat, lil nas x, megan thee stallion)
-the weeknd and dua lipa enter their After Hours and Future Nostalgia eras respectively (with both still continuing to some variation today)
- Euphoria is out
- olivia rodrigo debuts with High School Musical: The Musical: The Show

For me personally I set it at Spring 2019 right when Game of Thrones airs it's last episode but thats just me 2019 basically progressed and changed through the whole year. IMO the transition first started in Fall 2018 when TikTok came out and everything was set by NYD 2020. Then March 2020 came lol. True, the funny thing is in Mid 2019 I put out a "we are in a shift right now" thread and ppl laughed lol

True, the funny thing is in Mid 2019 I put out a "we are in a shift right now" thread and ppl laughed lol The real shift was in 2020 though. In 2019 you had some hints of what was to come and it was really the setup for the fake early 2020s era which COVID put a stop to.

In 2019 you had some hints of what was to come and it was really the setup for the fake early 2020s era which COVID put a stop to. the thing is a ton of stuff that had traction in the 2018-2019 school year still pulled in hard after covid such as - Pop Punk ( MGK, Olivia etc etc) - Disney + & HBO MAX ( with HBO Max starting to become more buzzworthy than Netflix) tech both came out Q4 2019 - 80s wave part 3 - Euphoria debuting on HBO June 2019 - the start of Spider-Man Multiverse the first week of July 2019 ( Far from home sets this up) - Tik Tok's EXPLOSION - Bumble being more buzzworthy than Tinder None of these things above Covid put a stop 2, they were going to happen regardless
