While the latter half of 2001 was a great time for pop culture, everything else was very sad and depressing. Mainly Geopolitcally, but even the pop culture of that time was to some degree dark. I'll breakdown what makes the later half of 2001 just overall wired. While all of 2001 may not be as dark as 2007 and 2009 per say, I can't ignore the fact that late 2001 was just overall creepy.
World Events
Pop Culturally to some degree was dark and off putting!
While I love 2001 from a pop culture standpoint, I do not like the vibe of the last few months of that year alone.

Linkin Park was in their prime during the 2001-2002 school year. Whilst I’d say the previous school year was peak nu metal, it was certainly popular in 2001-2002.

was in 8th grade during this time, Anthrax scares added an element of craziness, I will say this tho and this is my eye witnessed of how this played out, the vibe went back to being relaxed around late November 2001/early Dec 2001

What I will say is that whilst I’ve ALWAYS seen 2001 as a fantastic year for movies/music/TV/video games, it was an undeniably terrible year for current events. I think 2008 is similar in that regard, being simultaneously the year of The Dark Knight and GTA IV, but also the year of the Great Recession.

It was an amazing year (the last half) tbh
