What is that one year that feels different from the rest of the decade in vibe and essence. For example for me 2000 is so different for the rest of the decade, even more then the late 2000s.
This music video from 2000 along with others like it feels so different compared to what came after it. Not just in aesthetic but also in sound
Now this is the epitome of the 2000s in not just in rap music but even in pop music

Great thread carcar 2006 springs to mind because of how strange things started to shift. 2009 as well. Of course I have to add 2000 because it does not even feel like it is canon to the year lol 1998 feels like a UN belonging year as well. In general that 2006-2007 school year felt so damn strange, like it could be its own mini series

1910-1913 1920 1929 1946-1949 1960-1963 1970 1990 2000 2009
Pretty much every year of the 1930s, 1950s, 1980s, and 2010s fits in with the decade in some way.

thing is once 2006 gets to that Fall period things start to get murky and its starts shedding some of that "classic" feeling We’re the late 2000s that different from the mid 2000s ? 2007 to me is that decade that caused the shift since that’s when the IPhone was released and PS3 sales went up. The 2000s in general were a decade of new technological releases that came and went and that for me is what defines it. It was already happening in 2006 on a micro level, points below - The WB network ends, The CW network forms - Blackberry Peal smartphone debuts and becomes popular - Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii launch (7th generation in full gear) - Timbaland's influence is on all music at this time - Scene emerges towards the end of the summer - Gritty games start popping up like Gears of War and even games like Sonic 06 make the jump - End of Malcolm in the Middle & That 70's show, 2 pivotal 2000s feeling tv shows - Youtube blows up in Summer 2006 and makes Time Magazine cover in the fall - WWE Raw changers it's logo and theme - Windows Vista released in Beta released - Abc Family ends it's Jetix block ( not that many people had Toon Disney, you had to pay extra cable tier to get it) - Facebook opens up to the public without a school e-mail - American Apparel starts aggressively advertising ( hipster shows first signs of growing) - Best Buy announces they will no longer be selling SDTV sets - Fruitger Aero aesthetics starts becoming really popular As for PS3 it literally stood there on shelves until the 2009 slim redesign, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii dominated the sales of the late 2000s. Now 2007 did continue these shifts and improved on them, the most notable being the aggressive push of Netflix in early 2007, as well as the mega buzz of Facebook during the spring. -

1939 - The beginning of World War II, the Great Depression was no longer the biggest world threat.
1960 - 1961/1962 get a pass I guess since some infamous 60s haircuts were big back then and you could hear some 60s music premises in popular music, but 1960 certainly doesn't feel it belongs.
1980 - I can't wrap my mind around the fact that a part of the disco era still co-exists in the same decade as the house and hip hop era of the late 80s where they formed in many cases a throwback to said disco era. Let alone that it was pre-MTV, pre-AIDS crisis and with so much 70s things going on.
I find it even less 80s than how 1990 is 90s or 2000 is 2000s.

Classic disco had died almost overnight in the summer of 1979 with the disco demolition night.

2009 is a standout for me, but I can't say that it feels 10's strongly enough that it would belong better there. I feel similarly about 2000 where it feels more like a buffer than either 90's or 00's.

1999, 2000, 2009
2010 and 2019 were both pretty 2010s in their own different way.
