I am interested in hearing other people's opinions on this. Do you believe the Hollywood film studios are beginning to run out of ideas for new movie premises?
I started to think this was the case back in 2014. It makes you wonder if the over-abundance in sequels this decade is due to the studios running out of ideas. Who knows, it may even explain why many movie series from the '80s and '90s have been revived this decade.

I think they kind of are, and if there is more people then we think that are original, a lot of people just wanna see a bunch of revivals of there favorite stuff from when they were a kid. This decade will probably be known as the "sequal decade"
I think we will get out of this eventually, and I can't wait when we do.

Even though, it looks like the trend of sequels and reboots won't truly be phased out until at least 2021. In 2020, a 9th Fast & Furious film, Trolls 2, Minions 2, an Indiana Jones sequel, Spongebob Squarepants 3, The Croods 2, a third Fantastic Beasts film, Avatar 2 and Sing 2 are all scheduled to be released!

Yeah, it's very obvious that they are running out of the ideas. You only need to look at the amount of sequels for movies released many years ago that are supposed to be released in the next few years to see this.

I personally think that they are. I'm kind of getting tired of the revivals. It's not really new or exciting.

It will be interesting to see what the 2020s are like for movies. I predict that the recent trend in sequels and reviving old franchises will be a characteristic of the 2010s. Hopefully the 2020s will offer more original content.
