By far 2001, there's still a huge stigma around it, even after a year like 2020 happened where you could barely live decently during it. I absolutely adore that year's pop culture, but everytime you try to show appreciation people almost always bring up the same "but 9/11 happened!!!". Apparently for people that one singular event is enough to overshadow the 8 months prior or just the things completely disconnected from it in general, and it's so irritating.

Well to be fair, the events of that day singlehandedly changed the way the globe dealt with airport security, surveillance and terrorism for decades. You essentially can't talk about 2001 without thinking about 9/11 in some way. Anyway, I actually think it's a good thing that people do still bring up 9/11 whenever 2001 is referred to, especially when you consider the fact that the attacks were only twenty years ago (which is still incredibly recent in terms of history) and the effects of them are still being indirectly felt to this day. Not only that, but if we stopped referring to 9/11 as often as we do, I also believe it would be a form of disrespect (even if it is unintended) to the victims who lost their lives on that day. I would be annoyed if we as a society made a conscious effort to pretend as though they never happened in the first place. It's okay to talk about the trends or releases from 2001, but there's understandably a reason as for why many people do bring up 9/11.

I mean to be fair 9/11 did change a ton of things political wise, and as Sharks said with Terrorism and airport security etc, but back on to what you were saying, one thing that pisses me off when people say " the pop culture world was one way before 9/11 and another after 9/11" when it fact the culture had been changing that spring/summer before 9/11 even hit. I think people just like a red flag marker to set a start date.

2021 but mainly for personal reasons I graduated from high school in that year, and moved into a new apartment that's nicer than almost anywhere I've lived. So I feel you.

People only hate 2009 on this forum on youtube 2008 and 2009 I noticed are some of the highest rated years, far cry from us decadeology snobs Late 2000s seem to be the most loved era of the 00s, because of Zillennials and Zoomers. it just doesn't get throwbacks because it's too recent

2016. Well I don't "love" it but I think it's a perfectly fine year and don't hate it all like everyone else does.
