Yes, we collectively as a society decide(to an extent at least) how each decade is going to go by following trends, electing presidents, adopting new technologies, etc. But if you could name ONE person who contributed the most into setting the feel for a new decade, who would it be?
Example:
00s - Osama Bin Laden
10s - Barack Obama
20s - Unclear yet but I would say either Trump or potentially Elon Musk or Putin.

For the 2020s it's definitely Trump, but perhaps only for the first half of the decade

For the 2020s it's definitely Trump, but perhaps only for the first half of the decade I agree about the first half of the decade. I think either elon musk(AI robots, solar energy, etc) or putin/zelenzky(if WW3 happens) will contribute mostly to the second half.

Rant incoming: Elon didn't event shit, he shouldn't take credit for the technological revolution we're about to see. I understand why people want to compare him to Steve Jobs (both of them steal other people's ideas and are bad people) but Steve Jobs actually had a vision of how he wanted things to be

What exactly is he making mainstream? EVs and renewable energy. For the record, I don't like Musk that much either, but come on, he's clearly a prominent figure in today's society. I mean, he was literally picked as Person of the Year for 2021 by Time Magazine.

Anyways I would say this really needs to be split into three categories: political figures, pop culture icons, and technology/business figures. I'm only gonna do the 90s, 00s, and 10s, since we're not even halfway through this decade, and I don't know much about decades pre-90s.
1990s Politics: Bill Clinton Pop Culture: Kurt Cobain Technology/Business: Bill Gates
2000s Politics: George W. Bush Pop Culture: Britney Spears Technology/Business: Steve Jobs
2010s Politics: Barack Obama Pop Culture: PewDiePie Technology/Business: Mark Zuckerberg

He's just a way more prominent figure. and I think he perfectly represents the political turmoil of the 2010s. Just thinking about it, PewDiePie was the first YouTube "popstar" and now MrBeast is looking like he's going to be the second one, he is already more popular than PewDiePie actually

Musicians, actors, that sort of thing. PewDiePie on the other hand is SQUARELY a product of the 2010s. Not only has the 2010s seen social media influencers and YouTubers becoming pop culture icons, but it's also a decade defined by trends like lets plays, ironic edgy humor, meme culture, and a prominent fanbase, all things PewDiePie represents.

PewDiePie was the 2010s Britney Spears :^)

If anything, 2015 was peak lets plays, with YouTubers like Markiplier, VanossGaming and JackSepticEye becoming really popular that year. I think if anything, that was the main thing that led to PewDiePie's small decline, since there was so much competition that year, that he had to reinvent himself into an edgy ironic YouTuber to regain popularity.

They also played trendier games like Five Nights at Freddys and Undertale.
