So I am sure you all saw my 90s Movie/cinema thread. As the title says..this is about The 2000s. So in the 2000s we saw a ton of chains get rid of their smaller theaters from 80s & 90s and implement newer stadium seating with slighter larger screens. You have to remember at the time stadium seating was BIG UPGRADE, like you could see more. Better Dolby sound was also added to most chain speaker systems. Around 2007 IMAX started making buzz with Spider-Man 3, however the film itself was not filmed in Imax,it was just blown up for Imax screens. When we get to 2008..FINALLY IMAX blows up with the Dark Knight, few scenes in the film take advantage of the bigger aspect ratio. In fact I will credit Dark Knight for making Imax going from a niche museum experience to a full fledged entertainment extravaganza. Then another shift happens in 2009... 3D, with the advent of 3D TV's growing at that time it only made sense for the movie industry to catch on make 3D movies. Movies that were not even 3D got upscaled to be REAL 3D. It was a very big deal at the time and lasted a few years after the 2000s ended.
Oh and one more thing about 2000s theaters...The presentation was upped 10 fold. Things felt BIGGER,BADDER.

Very true, there were a lot of underrated cinema related shifts that people take for granted from the 2000s. Certain points in late 2000s were very transformative with imax blowing up, movies getting upscaled to be real 3d. Films like avatar really help set the standard for later even if was kinda of overrated at the time. There definitely was a massive cinema experience upgrade compared to earlier especially when a lot plazas, malls and cinemas were renovating in 03-05. I remember a lot of cinemas in very early 2000s/Y2K era having dated qualities, you really had a search out the ones with bigger screen options I remember doing that for watching baseketball in summer 98 in this big cinema complex but it wasn't the norm and as developed like later on. Lion king, TMNT II, and jurassic park with 2000s cinemas would have made a huge difference although when you are kid things seem bigger than what they are lol. You also saw more diverse food and meal options, popcorn choices, drinks and snacks in the 2000s and it gradually increased within the decade contributing to the diversity of food options at cinemas today. I remember Imax and similar companies had their own cinemas where characters would pop out in cheesy 3d, with or without 3d glasses, and scare you with weird sound effects and sometimes water earlier in the 90s and y2k era. Imax were also responsible for a lot of 3d rides which had similar features. There was this reboot ride from the mid or late 90s that was made by imax, the chairs would shake around and it was amazing. There also another micheal jackson game in a shuttle that you find in big arcades or putt putt centers back in the day in the 90s that was similar but I'm not sure it was by imax:

I feel like Dolby and IMAX really became standard in movie theaters during the 2010s. Same goes for digital film. Honestly, as much as I rag on the 2010s, the theater experience in that decade was pretty baller, all things considered. It's such a shame it was the last decade theaters really had prominence, but at least they went out with a bang.

During the Y2k era you still had dated cinema screens like the one I posted in the 90s thread, You really didn't realize how dated it was until AMC started renovating the screens lol, I feel like soon after AMC did this almost every theater chain including Cinermark slowly started copying them. Stadium seating really made a difference as well back then. If those bigger screens were out in the 90s I would imagine being even more blown away by TMNT lol
