There is a common opinion that tropical house became popular in 2015. While that is true, it actually was starting to be mainstream in 2014.

Very true 2014-2017 was the tropical era I honestly don’t which era is more tropical feeling: 1962-1964, 2002-2003, or 2014-2017. I will also say that whilst I’m in the minority of people that doesn’t consider 2017 core 2010s, tropical house IS something that ties it to the core 2010s.

Very true, I think tropical house as a trend started around 2012-13 when deep house artists wanted to go for a poppier, more mainstream sound. But 2014 was deffo the year of popularization.

It wasn't the tropical 10s anymore, but It wasn't the TikTok era yet either.

And 2002-2003 didn’t seem tied to any specific culture. I say it was tropical feeling more because a lot of movies, TV shows, and video games from around then have this aquatic/beach/surfer theme.

It lived and died with the decade, lasting from 1968 to 1980. Everything was about California surfer culture in 1962 and 1963, and then 1964 happened and suddenly EVERYTHING was about Britain.

Solo by Demi Lovato, i think There were also a few leftovers from 2017, Shape Of You was still huge in the first month(s) of 2018. But the genre was clearly dead by 2018, just lingering around like a zombie.

I think the obsession with Hawaii is pretty easily explainable: the state was literally brand new in the early 60s. It was admitted to the union alongside Alaska in 1959, completing the 50 states of America.

Actually now that I think about it, there was this huge hit in 2018: This song was also pretty big in 2019: But yeah, the genre was pretty much done by 2018.
