Well, the two World Wars and the Spanish Flu I would say were way worse. But as far as 21st century years are concerned? Yes. Very yes.

"Grand daddy" as in it started a streak of bad years? Perhaps
2020 = covid 2021 = insurrection and NFTs cancer 2022 = European War
But 1914 was worse
1914 was the start of ww1, which ended in 1918 with 20 million deaths, but then in 1918 it was the start of the Spanish flu pandemic. That ended in 1920 with 50 million deaths
So 1914 started a streak of bad years that only ended in 1921
1914-1920 was a combo of crap years, one crappy after the other. 70 million people died of unnatural causes in 6 years
