KISS survived the 70s-80s because back then it took a bit longer for people to get sick of gimmicky popstars Nowadays people get sick of them after 3 to 5 years It takes quicker honestly. Souija Boy was everywhere for a year after he blew up, and then he completely fell off the face of the Earth afterwards. Yet Kiss's particular style of rock was popular for A WHILE, only really dying off when Nirvana blew up, and glammy makeup theatrical rock in general became uncool, replaced instead by the angst and plain appearances that defined grunge and alternative rock in general. True. Something shifted in the 90s, since then people get sick of gimmicky starts quicker. Vanilla Ice, Soulja Boy, Lady Gaga All very gimmicky starts people got sick of super quickly

We have more means of entertaining ourselves compared to before, and our attention spans have decreased, so we get sick of music artists quicker.

I feel like Kiss was successful in both decades because glamorous makeup rock as a whole was popular in the 70s and 80s. It’s also why David Bowie was popular in the 70s and 80s. KISS survived the 70s-80s because back then it took a bit longer for people to get sick of gimmicky popstars Nowadays people get sick of them after 3 to 5 years I mean Kiss literally had to abandon to their make up gimmick and became a more generic rock band in the mid-80s. And they weren't that big compared to before anyway. People were always quickly tired of gimmicks and charts move on rapidly if you don't adapt. Many doo-wop acts were left in the dust as soon as British bands took over in 1964 for example.

There are popular artists who defined a decade but there others who associated with two or even more decades. Green Day - 90s and 00s Beyoncé - 90s(Her being in Destiny’s Child counts), 00s and 10s Rihanna- 00s and 10s. Madonna - 80s, 90s, and 00s Bon Jovi - 80s and 90s Kanye West - 00s and 10s The Weeknd - 10s and 20s. Diana Ross - 60s and 70s Michael Jackson- 70s, 80s, and 90s I see Beyoncé prime and associate her with the 2000s

Diana Ross - 60s and 70s Michael Jackson- 70s, 80s, and 90s Blondie - 70s, 80sNot really a surprise. Blondie were very ahead of their time, and played a major role in creating the sound of the 80s as we know it. Whilst everyone was just doing the same ol’ disco schlock, Blondie was pushing boundaries. It’s why when most 70s artists died out as we got into the 80s, Blondie was welcomed into the decade’s culture with open arms.
