There are popular artists who defined a decade but there others who associated with two or even more decades.
Green Day - 90s and 00s Beyoncé - 90s(Her being in Destiny’s Child counts), 00s and 10s Rihanna- 00s and 10s. Madonna - 80s, 90s, and 00s Bon Jovi - 80s and 90s Kanye West - 00s and 10s The Weeknd - 10s and 20s. Diana Ross - 60s and 70s Michael Jackson- 70s, 80s, and 90s

Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Bon Jovi are more associated with the 80s than any other decade, even if they had other hits in other decades.

You can also add the 80s on her resume, as she was absolutely massive in the early 80s.

I’ve seen them be associated with both the 70s and 80s. Same goes for Whitney Houston and the 80s and 90s. I mean, The Bodyguard was the 2nd highest grossing film of 1992, and that movie only did as well as it did because she was in it. In fairness, she is FAR AND AWAY the best part of that movie.

I think a lot of arena rock artists in general crossed over between the 70s and 80s. Because the genre was huge in both decades.

It was almost mandatory for rock bands to include synths around 1982-83 if they wanna remain relevant. It seemed like that remained the case until 1988, when Guns N Roses broke out in popularity. With the exception of Paradise City, none of the songs off Appetite for Destruction use synths. They received acclaim precisely BECAUSE they were a pure hard rock band with attitude, rather than, say, Bon Jovi.

KISS! They were huge in the 70s and 80s I feel like Kiss was successful in both decades because glamorous makeup rock as a whole was popular in the 70s and 80s. It’s also why David Bowie was popular in the 70s and 80s.

Souija Boy was everywhere for a year after he blew up, and then he completely fell off the face of the Earth afterwards. Yet Kiss's particular style of rock was popular for A WHILE, only really dying off when Nirvana blew up, and glammy makeup theatrical rock in general became uncool, replaced instead by the angst and plain appearances that defined grunge and alternative rock in general.
