Have any of you watched this movie yet?
{Spoiler} The movie itself was cute but I felt that very similarly to Seeing Red, they got the look wrong. A few details such as the gelled hair were okay, but the main characters hairstyle with the clips was imo too 1999 for 2002. I got the impression they might've referenced Lizzie McGuire or something rather than what a senior in high school would've actually worn. Her 1999 dress was also bizarre. I'm not sure if she was supposed to look that way, but almost 1989. And would a teen still have a Hit Me Baby era Britney poster up in their room? I don't know, if they were a huge fan maybe, but I can't help but feel like they're pushing this together as one big era.

Just by the trailer I can tell the messed a ton of things up
1) no one had Nsync posters on their wall in 2002 or any part of 2002, Teen Pop was dead, and even songs like Nsync's Girlfriend had to have Nelly in the song to sell 2) Some of the hairstyles int he flashback look either late 2000s or early 2010s
If I actually watch the movie I will pick apart everything

The thing about the early 2000s is perception of it has been warped, like people can't remember it accurately or forget major transitions that happened during that time. The fact that she had a 1999 poster in 2002 just made me throw up at how badly accurate it was. The director most likely grew up in another decade and just assumed people still listened to that in 2002.

I think part of the problem is that people are viewing it as an aesthetic rather than a linear point in time. So if someone is going to come up with an "early 2000's inspired" outfit to be worn in 2022 then I guess it doesn't really matter that much, but if you are the costume designer/animator for a movie that takes place in 2002, then yeah it does matter. They're not grasping the progression of time.

Someone who never saw the 2000s with their own eyes watching that movie is going to think all of the 2000s was like 2000. Someone really needs to give the costumer designers and producer of that movie an earful.
