This is a precursor to my “early Web 2.0” websites thread. I’m talking about websites that peaked in the mid 00s. BTW, if you don’t see MySpace on this list, it’s because that website was already mentioned in my early Web 2.0 thread, and I see that website as more late 00s anyway.

myspace Yahoo! Launch ( How we watched music videos online before Youtube) Yahoo! I already discussed MySpace in my early Web 2.0 thread. It was definitely popular in the mid 2000s, but I associate it more with the late 2000s. Yahoo Music was definitely popular in the mid 2000s, and continued to be big until 2007, completely dying off once Vevo came along. Yahoo in general was big for a while. It launched in 1994, had a registered domain by 1995, and was a major part of internet culture by the late 90s. I'd say the peak was the Y2K era. Afterwards, the dot-com bubble burst, and Google started taking off.

Afterwards, the dot-com bubble burst, and Google started taking off. Yahoo Music was not popular at all in 2007, as soon as youtube blew up in 06 in the Summer it seemed like Yahoo music lost all popularity. In fact many labels skipped launch and just put their videos on youtube in 2006. Launch had died spiritually long before it's closure. Yahoo was still big in the mid 2000s, I would say 2005 is it's peak, ironically 2006 is when Google started replacing Yahoo as many peoples home page. You have to remember Yahoo Mail was the defacto e-mail of choice in the early and mid 2000s ( before G-mail took off) ___________@Yahoo.com was almost every business e-mail contact in commercials at the time.
