OK, so how would you describe each era from an aesthetic perspective? These are my thoughts 2000: Y2K chrome aesthetics and translucent curved plastics and largely not different from 1998-1999. 2001-2002: Y2K influences continue, but you see the birth of skeuomorphism thanks to Windows XP and Mac OS X. These interfaces have a colorful and fun look to them, but also one of eyecandy. You also see these aesthetics in game consoles, namely the GameCube and original Game Boy Advance, with their colorful but slick design. Early McBling influences show in pop culture, but it is not super popular yet. 2003-2005: McBling takes over pop culture, with flip phones becoming a part of pop culture, and Paris Hilton becoming the biggest celebrity around. We also see hip-hop and import culture taking over everything, including video games, such as Need for Speed Underground and Def Jam: Fight for NY. You see a lot of pink and luxury-oriented aesthetics during this time. On the technology side, you see the emergence of silver/metallic electronic devices, such as the Game Boy Advance SP, original Nintendo DS, and several computers, monitors, and TVs. Blue LEDs start appearing a lot. Early Frutiger Aero elements in Mac OS X and Windows XP themes. Black and pink emo/pop punk aesthetics emerge as a subcultural aesthetic and is very popular on MySpace (alongside McBling). 2006: The transitional period between the slick silver luxury-oriented mid 00s, and the monochromatic aesthetics of the late 00s. 2007-2010: Frutiger Aero. Windows Vista, iOS, and Mac OS X Leopard all define this era aesthetically, with Windows 7 released later only adding to it with even more eyecandy. Many advertisements and UIs (Apple’s ads such as Get a Mac are a prime example) have a blank white background, hinting at 2010s minimalism. Luxury-oriented bling aesthetics die out due to bling/gangsta rap dying out and the Great Recession. Emo aesthetics transistion into scene aesthetics, which are very bright and colorful. Clothing become bright and neon looking, especially as electropop becomes the new most popular form of music. Blue LEDs are EVERYWHERE, with black and blue color schemes being very common. Environmentalist/nature oriented aesthetics are juxtaposed with slick glass aesthetics. Aurora visuals are very popular. Shiny reflective black plastic electronics are very popular, which unfortunately get scratched very easily (looking at you PS3).

I love it. Agree with this. Which movies (and shows) do you believe capture each sub-eras of the 2000s period?
