For the past year, I've been hearing increasing negativity towards airbnb. Some issues related to pricing (rates as high as hotels, surprise cleaning fees, etc.) but mostly in regards to how the industry affects entire communities. The city of New Orleans, for example, has been referenced as having an affordable housing shortage, and the sheer amount of airbnb rentals is being cited as a reason why. These properties may often sit vacant, and when they are occupied, it is for short term and at high rent. Many are saying that this can have a gentrifying affect, changing the faces of communities and potentially pushing members out of them. It has gone as far as seeing hosts disrespected for simply being in the business.
I'm curious as to what some of your thoughts are on this and whether you think this business model will sustain throughout the decade or will eventually feel more like a novelty of the 2010's.

Interesting question, I think air bnb is def less valued as it was in the past and I indeed think it is on a downswing path to destruction
