The ones that stick out to me in the past 25 years (not ranked): 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2016 & 2020 This this and this lol, people really forgetting in 96 we went from Tupac,Biggie and Grunge looking commercials...........to this in 97
97 from the jump brought it "new energy"

97 from the jump brought it "new energy"
Yeah 1997 was a major shift for every genre of music. Pop changed, as did rap. But even rock had a change. Even after grunge proper died in 1995, alternative rock in 1995/1996 had a very grungy Gen X atmosphere to it. Think Bush, Live, Alanis Morissette, Smashing Pumpkins, that kind of thing. But in 1997/1998, for a while, things became more pop rock-y. You had these really poppy and lighthearted bands like Third Eye Blind, Barenaked Ladies, Goo Goo Dolls, and Matchbox Twenty that were big during this time. Granted, this was a short-lived phase, and by 1999, rock would be taken over by nu metal and pop-punk, ushering in the 2000s era of rock.
