My list for the 21st century:
1. 2008
2. 2001
3. 2009
4. 2016
5. 2020(I know i'll probably get ravaged for this again but it's overrated imo. It was probably the biggest shift contained within the actual year and the following year but the long term lasting effects are not as big as the other big shifts. COVID is already dead.).

Anyway, here’s my list, at least for the 21st century
1. 2001 2. 2020 3. 2008 4. 2016 5. 2017
2001 and 2020 are the only two years that actually felt like reset buttons.

I feel a lot of people overemphasize the shift of 2016. There was a shift but it wasn't that big in my opinion. I think both 2013 and 2006 were bigger shifts.
Last on the list as an honourable mention I would put 2017. Which is weird because 2016 and 2017 were both shift years in a way even though they are side by side with each other. But still nowhere near as big as the other ones I mentioned.

To add another one to the list after 2016 as an honourable mention, I would say 2003. I forgot about 2003. 2003 was a bigger shifts than 2017 even.

2016 was a weird year, even when compared to other weird years like 2008 and 2020

2016 was a weird year, even when compared to other weird years like 2008 and 2020 IDK, 2020 I think was even weirder, and the weirdest year of the entire 21st century so far.
