I believe it is 2011 since that is when smartphones became commonplace, Windows 7 overtook XP, Google Chrome seemed to overtake Internet Explorer and the 3DS came out. Also first full year of Xbox Kinect(it released at the very end of 2010 so pretty much no one had it). 2010 and 2013 are strong contenders though.

2013: PS4 and Xbox One come out. Vine and Instagram explode in popularity. iOS 7 and the iPhone 5S come out. 2015: Smart speakers and smartwatches become a thing. Windows 10 comes out. Drones explode in popularity. 2016: AR/VR takes off. Smart speakers exploded in popularity (I myself got a Google Home shortly after release). 4K takes off.
Those are my three picks. I can't decide to be honest. I'm gonna go for 2013 though, given the HUGE impact those apps have had on pop culture, and the fact skeuomorphism truly died off that year.

HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift. They all came out in 2016. I remember tons of YouTubers playing HTC Vive games in 2016. As for AR, I've got two words for you: Pokemon, Go.

This is JACKSEPTICEYE that's playing VR games, one of the biggest YouTubers of the time. As for AR, I've got two words for you: Pokemon, Go. Jacksepticeye is a rich and famous youtuber. Only youtubers and techy people had it. Even to thise day not many people have VR. As for AR, pokemon go was a one time thing which died after like autumn 2016.

Yeah, but, for better or worse, these types of people also generally popularize trends. They make people WANT to have something even if they can't afford it. Bedazzled T-Mobile Sidekicks became trendy because people like Paris Hilton had them, even if not everyone could afford one. The fact of the matter is that these types of people are really the ones that put things into the cultural zeitgeist. Then later on, more people in the GP get interested. That's ALWAYS how it's been.

Despite showing them off, they were still far from popular in the late 10s. They still aren't even popular and it's 2022.

2015: 8th-generation gaming becomes the standard, AR/VR, drones becoming popular, hoverboards, the Apple Watch, 4K TV's coming out in stores, and Windows 10.
I'd say 2015
