2013 you can say still has some connections to today (in a relative sense). But 2012 feels quite dated and far removed now.

2012 do feel really dated but it also feels weird that it feels dated, if that makes sense. The future is now feeling.

2012 is definitely dated, no doubt about that, but 2012-2022 isn’t anywhere near as big of a leap as say 1992-2002 or 2002-2012. Like you look at those and say “WOW”. I still find it surreal that 2012 is a full decade old. Like when 2007 for example became a decade old in 2017, it made sense. 2007 and 2017 are total worlds apart. I think the fact our current president was the VP of the Obama administration certainly doesn’t help.

Anything before 2010 feels like another world to me. Anything before 2016 feels dated.

It's hard to believe that some parts of 2012 were closer to 2002 than today. It feels like such a big difference between those years. Of course, I was only 4 and 5 in 2002 and 14 and 15 in 2012, so my perception of time would be quite different.

Of course, I was only 4 and 5 in 2002 and 14 and 15 in 2012, so my perception of time would be quite different. 2002 felt like a million miles away in 2012 It's because in 2002, dial-up internet was still the norm, social media was practically nonexistent, Windows XP was the newest version of Windows (with many still using Windows 98/2000/ME), CDs were still the most popular way of listening to music, VHS tapes were still popular with DVDs rapidly rising, cell phones had monochrome screens and could only text and play Snake, and 6th gen gaming was the current era of gaming. Whereas in 2012, dial-up was a joke, we were all obsessed with Facebook and YouTube (with Instagram rapidly rising in popularity), Windows 8 was the newest version of Windows (though Windows 7 was definitely the most popular), most people listened to music on their phones via iTunes and Pandora, touchscreen smartphones were in all of our pockets, Blu-Ray was the most popular video format, with digital downloads also being popular, and 7th gen gaming was the most popular. The gap between 2002 and 2012 is IMMENSE, no matter which way you look at it.

In 2002, we were all using CRT TVs, connecting our consoles with composite cables, whereas in 2012, LCDs had taken over, with HD being the norm in terms of both TV and internet content, and HDMI had replaced composite in terms of cables. Also, 2012 was well in the Platinum Age of Television, with shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Office, and Breaking Bad. We had nothing like that in 2002. Let's not forget the analog TV shutdown.

Yeah I agree that 2012 is just regular dated and that 2002 to 2012 was way more of a leap. 2013 however was very similar to 2012 and imo barely has more of a connection to today. Things that were going on in 2012 had been more adopted by 2013 and what remained of the 2000's was fading more and more all the time, but they are quite similar years overall.
