Recently there's been a lot of talk about trans issues, especially when it comes to children. Lately there's been bills prohibiting minors from medically transitioning and some people think this is transphobic and harming trans kids. But some people aren't comfortable with the idea of kids transitioning since their bodies are still developing. This is especially the case if the person hasn't hit puberty yet and plans to go on puberty blockers. Do you think this sort of medical transition should be allowed on minors?

are minors allowed to vote? no are minors allowed to buy a gun? no are minors (under 16) allowed to drive? no are minors (under age of consent) allowed to consent to sex? no are minors allowed to buy alcohol? no are minors allowed to rent a car? no should minors be allowed to take puberty blockers that will stunt their growth, specifically lupron which has been used to sterilize pedophiles? yes! it’s perfectly safe and children should be able to make this life changing decision by themselves! you know what? maybe let’s skip the puberty blockers and just put them straight on hormones. sounds like a great idea!

Now we're at the point where we have had living subjects of this medical experiment reach adulthood, since that's essentially what it is, and I'm not sure it's going so well. See: Jazz. There are a lot of potential side effects, in addition to unknown psychological affects, and one will automatically be subjected to a lifetime of medical intervention. But even in an instance where they were to grow up happy and healthy, I still don't think it's ethical to be allowed/encouraged to make this kind of decision while so young. It is not as reversible as claimed. There is some underlying vanity, in my opinion, in the push to undergo these procedures before and during puberty.

From my understanding they aren’t even making most trans kids go on hormones until they actually do begin puberty when they start turning into teenagers. One thing I’ve noticed from a lot of transphobes is how a lot of people will end up regretting it and they point to people who have de-transitioned and are unsatisfied with the results. This is totally biased since there’s been plenty of who we have seen now leading happy fulfilled lives now in adulthood who has transitioned at an early age. But albeit this should be done in a controlled environment with doctors who know what they’re doing. Most recommendations by experts on transgender kids only narrow down to social transition before any type of hrt treatment is done. So that basically means, using preferred pronouns, using clothes from desired gender and playing with toys made for they’re gender. Nothing drastic so to speak.

this is more for adult transitioners but there should be screening for fetishes and other factors before allowing them to transition

There is still some taboo around kids playing with toys with made for the opposite gender in mind. But this is to say that this alone doesn’t equal to someone being transgender since there’s cisgender kids who play with toys made with the opposite gender in mind all the time.
