I'm done with this shit lol. In the end everyone has their own interests. Decades and years only exist to organize time bro, same as minutes and hours. Pop culture is unique from place to place and from person to person. Stop making it a science lol.
Enjoy music and art from different time periods but stop with the whole "2009 is in the 2010s" or "the mid 2000s started on April 8, 2003 at 4:17 PM because of this random thing that happened" bullshit. It's a deep rabbithole I was sucked into during the pandemic boredome, but fuck it's dumb and arbitrary.

I don't mind talking about cultural eras and what defines one or another. Even what is the quintessential year of a decade or period. What I DO mind is when people make it such a big fucking deal. It's not the end of the world if somebody disagrees with your take.

Dont click on decadeology threads then if you don't like it. You can use the pop culture subforum which is more focused on pop culture discussions.

I've seen more than one person here say "Trap is dead in 2022 because 2010s blah blah early 2020s blah blah transition blah blah" and it annoys the hell out me because no it fucking isn't to me and a lot of people I know, and across the whole internet. "Cultural eras" are arbitrary and subjective and people out here treating its like science and fact lol. I know I'ma get a lot of hate because people are stuck in the obsession but goddamn.

I think it’s only one person here who says trap is dead in 2022 but he is known for having bad takes.
I don’t mind cultural era talk. People outside this forum do find the existence of early 2010s or mid 2000s as legit eras but when people here (including me) talk about transitions and cutoffs, those are highly subjective and not an objective.

The problem for me is that a lot of people think a genre is "dead" just because some suburban kids stopped listening to it lol. A high school in the inner city in 2010 would be playing a whole lot of hip hop and little electropop vs that being the opposite in the suburbs for example. Yeah I appreciate that most people here don't treat "cultural eras" that seriously but it's still really annoying when it does happen, especially when most of the time it's just based on a suburban high school experience.

While trap isn’t dead, it’s not as big as it used to be in 2016-2020. I usually see cultural eras based on music, graphic, societal, and fashion trends and how saturated they were in a particular time. For example, SoundCloud rap peaked in 2017 therefore its a late 2010s year in my opinion. Nowadays I just observe the core decade trends and how they define the decade rather seeing decades as separate cultural eras.
