AKA, John Titor's most hated year. Which year is as far from 2015 as you can get? For me, it's definitely 2007. Here are some MAJOR differences.
Gaming: In 2007, Nintendo was thriving, Sony was struggling, motion controls were all the rage, and gaming was mostly very edgy and violent. In 2015, Nintendo was struggling, Sony was thriving, motion controls were dead, and gaming was dominated by quirky non-violent indie games like Undertale.
Music: In 2007, music was dominated by edgy/angsty rock bands with meaningful lyrics like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Three Days Grace. In 2015, music was defined by lyricless EDM songs by the likes of Alan Walker.
Fashion: In 2007, with emo as the dominant subculture, long hair, eyeliner, no facial hair, and an overall feminine look defined males. In 2015, with hipster as the dominant subculture, short hair, facial hair, and a hyper-masculine look defined males.
Animation: In 2007, animation was all about thick-lines and angular looks. In 2015, animation was all about thin lines, and a overall soft look.
Internet culture/memes: In 2007, cat memes, short viral videos, and rickrolling defined internet culture. In 2015, edgy memes such as "I sexually identify as an attack helicopter" define internet culture.
Aesthetics: In 2007, aesthetics are predominately flashy/skeumorphic. In 2015, aesthetics are predominately minimalistic.
What do you think?

I think thats why I hated it so much. 2015 gave off super " I am trapped inside a room and I can't get out " vibes

Flat design was a backlash against skeuomorphism and Frutiger Aero, hipsters were a backlash against McBling and emo fashion, dubstep/EDM was a backlash against angsty rock, the “CalArts” style was a backlash against thick-line cartoons. Even gaming was a backlash, since mobile games and indie games heavily define the 2010s, whereas the 2000s was all about dedicated handhelds such as the GBA, DS, and PSP, and triple-A developers defined gaming.

Here’s another difference. 2015 was obsessed with Netflix to the point “Netflix and Chill became a popular expression that year. Netflix did launch their streaming service that year, but almost nobody had it. Instead, cable networks were huge. Just look at Disney Channel, who peaked in ratings in 2007. Everyone throughout much of the 2000s talked about cable. Especially in the context of kid culture, it was all about Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and Nickelodeon.
