It's kind of weird how socially acceptable 2000s nostalgia has become in the past few years. Before like 2021 it was all about 90s/Early 2000s nostalgia and the 2000s, save for the early part was seen as the shitty downfall decade. Now it's considered almost retro status and its the new cool thing to talk about and be nostalgic about. I'm not just talking about people on the internet. 2000s music is becoming more common on radios and I overheard a conversation on this TV show where one of the contestants or stars or whoever said "The 2000s, our favourite decade" or something along those lines. Like I get that over time, nostalgia changes towards newer eras or decades but it's weird how a few years ago you'd just look awkward if you showed nostalgia towards any of the 2000s besides the first half but now it is probably in its nostalgia heydey. With the 90s for example there was somewhat of a buildup towards it. You had a show called "I love the 90s" in freaking 2004 and it didn't peak in nostalgia until the early-mid 10s.

Didn't a similar thing happen to the 80s for the 80s the first instance of it was The Wedding singer in 1998 and some songs sampleing the 80s, but the "80s are back" wave started in 2002 when Vice City, That 80s show and Vh1 I love the 80s all came out, and then in 03,04,05,06,07,08,09 and going into the 2010s various eras of the 80s were the "thing" Some examples of the 80s wave roots

I first noticed it in 2019. First song samples a song from 2005 and the second one samples a song from 2004.
2000s nostalgia really blew up in 2021 tho definitely. Rap jumped on the trend first and everyone else followed after I guess.

Didn't a similar thing happen to the 80s Don't know. I doubt it way anything like the situation with the 2000s where before 2020 there was only nostalgia for the early part and the rest was considered shitty and cringeworthy then like 2 years later it is the new "cool" decade.

Rap jumped on the trend first and everyone else followed after I guess. I noticed very small glimpses of it in the late 10s but it was mostly confined to specific areas online. Like you said it became mainstream 2021.

There was a shitton of early 00s nostalgia though, maybe even the peak of early 00s nostalgia.
