Which year had the darkest last few months (Sep/Oct-Dec)?
IMO, Late 2001, Late 2005, Late 2006 and Late 2008 comes thru my mind.
Late 2001: September 11th Attacks, Anthrax‘s Scare, War on Terror, Islamophobia, Aaliyah’s Passing
Late 2005: Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath, Iraq War’s Backlash, Eddie Guerrero’s Death
Late 2006: Dark and Digital aesthetics, EMO at its mainstream peak, Steve Irwin’s Passing, Paparazzi’s bullying celebrities such as Britney, Lindsay etc..
Late 2008: Great Recession, Mall Apocalypse
Do you have

Darkest 2001 or 2006
Lightest 2004 or 2009 I would say 2006 100% Late 2001 was mainly dark due to the situations going on in the Geopolitical World (9/11, Anthrax Scare, War in Afghanistan). While Late 2006 was mainly dark because of Pop Culture of that time period (EMO, Dark and Digital vibes). Off Topic, but John, do you remember hearing the news of the death of Thuy Trang (The original Yellow Ranger)? She passed away on September 3rd of 2001 from a car accident. It had to been a very sad time to be a power ranger fan. That is why I believe Late 2001 had the darkest vibe of the entire decade.

Of fucking course it's 2001. I mean, if it were JUST for 9/11, it would already take the cake. And then add on things like Anthrax (which was a BIG deal), the start of the War in Afghanistan, the Patriot Act, the death of Alliyah, etc., that just made it insanely tumultuous. It was also a scary time for Americans. Even pop culture was dark, as nu metal arguably reached its peak in popularity then, with Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, and Nickelback songs being played everywhere.

Also PS3 creepy ads on tv added to it ( and not in a good way, those ads sucked) As for Thuy I had no idea she died in 2001 when it was happening, it was not on the news or anything ( I think in LA it made the news locally) Had she been alive Power Rangers would have brought her back numerous times already like they do for Jason David Frank & Austin St John. Sad she died tho, she sounded like she was a really awesome person & is the greatest yellow ranger ever. I do know Time Force dedicated it's episode to her that month.

Indeed, even thinking about movies like Shrek that came out that school year, the roll out for it was super Y2K if that makes sense, like the y2k era had a certain roll out for mass media that felt of the time. I think it's a cross between Shrek & Tomb Raider coming out, that it was the last time movies had Y2k type promotion, that Y2K movie voice guy, that same Prodigy type thrill music.
