2009-10: lady gaga 2010-11: rihanna 2011-12: adele 2012-13: drake 2013-14: miley cyrus 2014-15: taylor swift 2015-16: the weeknd 2016-17: migos 2017-18: drake 2018-19: ariana grande 2019-20: doja cat I personally associate Adele more with the 2015-2016 school year, and The Weeknd more with the 2019-2020 school year Adele felt like such a contrast to the zeitgeist of the eras she was most popular. 2011-2012 was dominated by EDM and dubstep, whilst 2015-2016, at least at my school, was dominated by Vine rap like Hit the Quan and Watch Me Whip.

oh the reason i chose drake for 2015-2016 was bc of one dance, granted it didn’t come out till late in that school year but i feel like it fits the vibe of that schoolyear
