Which year would you say is your favorite and least favorite of each decade when it comes to music? Also, list tracks that show how good or bad a year was. Here are my picks
1980s Favorite: 1985 (Running Up the Hill, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Take on Me, Don’t You Forget About Me) Least Favorite: 1989 (Right Here Waiting, Hangin Tough, Girl I’m Gonna Miss You, I’ll Be There for You)
1990s Favorite: 1993 (Nuthin but a G Thang, Rooster, Heart-Shaped Box, It Was a Good Day) Least Favorite: 1990 (Cherry Pie, Ice Ice Baby, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, Do the Bartman)
2000s Favorite: 2003 (Clocks, Numb, Bring Me to Life, Seven Nation Army) Least Favorite: 2006 (You’re Beautiful, Laffy Taffy, Lips of an Angel, Chain Hang Low)
2010s Favorite: 2013 (Get Lucky, Rap God, Royals, Wake Me Up) Least Favorite: 2017 (Gucci Gang, Shape of You, Thunder, It’s Everyday Bro)

2000s Favourite: 2008 Least Favourite: 2006 2010s Favourite: 2013 Least Favourite: 2016 2017 is way worse. Mumble rap shitheads like Lil Pump defined that year coupled with the worst and most generic albums from Imagine Dragons and The Chainsmokers. So 2017 perfectly represents both the obnoxious narcissistic hypebeast aspect AND the generic corporate Big Tech aspect of 2010s culture. No surprise that The Emoji Movie, which represents both, came out that year.

You had precursors to the mumble crap era but you also had tons of shitty teen pop and in general music just flat out sucked that year.

Is this favorite or least favorite? I'm guessing this is favorite. I agree that 2002 was a really good year for music. 2010 was alright.

Songs like In Da Club, Get Low, and most notably Hey Ya, are all classics. I think 2002 was great too, as it was Eminem and Nelly’s peak. The worst IMO was 2006. So many shitty one-hit wonder ringtone rap songs. As for the 2010s, I’m conflicted because 2017/2018 had some really good stuff, but also some really awful stuff. We had incredible rappers like Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and J Cole, but then there’s also Lil Xan, 6ix9ine, and Lil Dicky.

Kinda like 1994-1996 in the 90s. 2006 did have a lot of bad rap songs, but it also had a lot of good drops too (T.I., Ludacris, Rick Ross, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, etc.) Same goes for 2017/2018. 2009 basically had nothing memorable at all except Jay-Z's The Blueprint III and "Forever" by Drake.

I think we can all agree that 1993-1996 was a golden period for hip-hop/rap. 2006 did have some good songs, such as the stuff you mentioned, but it was dominated heavily by terrible ringtone/bling rap like Laffy Taffy, Chain Hang Low, and Grillz. I actually feel the same way about 2007, but at least that year had the saving grace of the Kanye/50 Cent sales battle, which ended with Kanye winning, and thus changing the game of hip-hop. That album, Graduation, played a major role in the rise of electropop. In fact, you brought up Nas as a good release, well, he actually made a song that year called "Hip-Hop is Dead", in reference to the sorry state of the genre at that point. Considering he's one of the greatest rappers of all time, and he's saying this, that's NOT a good sign.

Yes you are absolutely correct that 2013 was the best year for music in the 2010s.
For the 2000s it was 2000.

1960s
Best = 1966, a legendary year filled with fantastic rock, pop and Motown classics as well as the beginnings of psychedelia.
Worst = 1961, one of the most boring years for the charts in history, very few things didn't fell like dull, safe, milquetoast and washed out versions of previous genres.
1970s
Best = 1976, I tend to flipflop between this year and 1979, but this year had so many fantastic rock and disco hits.
Worst = 1974, possibly my least favorite year for the charts of all time, pop was consistently lame and bad, very few soul and funk records stood out and commercial rock was in a mini-dark age with some horrible glam rock clogging the charts. The only bright spot would be the early disco hits.
1980s
Best = 1984, definitely the peak of MTV new wave in my eyes, pop and R&B were consistently fun and inventive that year and early glam metal was nicely silly rather than abhorrently lame.
Worst = 1986, new wave and synthpop started to decline and replaced by a buttload of terrible adult contemporary, while glam metal was in full annoying cock rock phase.
1990s
Best = 1995, the year alternative was at its peak of influence, hip hop hard hitting as ever, rave fresh as ever and pop and R&B started their enjoyable interlacing phase.
Worst = 1991, one of the most poorly produced years in existence, so many new jack swing, pop rap, adult contemporary and arena rock were just straight up ugly sounding. The whole year aged very poorly.
2000s
Best = 2004, an extremely diverse year for the charts, some of the most fun urban pop, hip hop and electronica were produced in this year, while rock was in a mostly appreciably goofy phase rather than overly self-serious.
Worst = 2009, another poorly produced year, the shift towards bleepy electropop, especially when mixed with R&B and rock, really sounded thin and ugly this year and not as dense and fun like in later years.
2010s
Best = 2013, a year filled with fantastic festival EDM songs, some fun stomping indie before the genre got bland, and plenty of creative and refreshing pop and hip hop.
Worst = 2016, the most poorly produced year in existence beating 1991 and 2009, filled with ugly squelchy future bass drops, annoying pitch shifted vocals, dull reverb and thin sounding trap.
