Which years of the 2010s felt like a Mario game, and which felt like a GTA or Call of Duty game? For me personally, I would say 2011 and 2012 were the most E-rated years of the 2010s. Everything was super happy and optimistic and people didn’t swear or do edgy things in pop culture. Memes were represented by Nyan Cat and rage comics and didn’t try to be edgy. Most M rated year was definitely 2016 or 2017. YouTubers were really edgy like Filthy Frank and LeafyIsHere, music got really angsty like with Twenty One Pilots, Lil Peep, and Lil Uzi Vert, there were tons of mass shootings, it was very political, and songs were about dark topics like suicide and depression.

E rated - 2013M rated - 2016 I wouldn't call the year of Miley Cyrus twerking the most E rated. 2011 and 2012 didn't have anything really inappropriate. It had a very teenybopper vibe. 2017 I think is more M rated thinking about it. It was super dark and edgy with all the SoundCloud rap, tattoos, and edgy memes. In 2011-2013, the biggest cartoons online were My Little Pony and Adventure Time, whereas in 2017-2018, the biggest cartoons were Rick and Morty, Big Mouth, and Bojack Horseman.

Also 2016 was the most politically tense year(esp late part) with brexit and trump and alt right vs sjws. It also had the toxic drama cringe culture community(leafy, pyro, h3h3, filthy frank) in full swing then in 2017 it was basically dead.

I actually think the early 2010s in general were more PC than the mid 2010s, and the most PC era of the 2000s/2010s. 2014 especially had the rise of edgy memes and YouTubers like Filthy Frank. People were into really colorful and goofy cartoons like My Little Pony and Adventure Time. Contrast that with the late 2010s where people are into edgy cartoons like Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, and Big Mouth.

The way I see it, 2010-2012 was super colorful, cheesy, and goofy, 2013-2014 was really raunchy/sexual, 2015-2016 was really politically incorrect and "edgelord-ish", and 2017-2019 had intense depression and angst.
