Looking back at it now, the whole era was one big meme. Donald trump as a president was just funny for no reason other then he didn’t even try to hide how terrible of a person he was.

Late 2010s were more serious than the rest of the decade. It was all mass shootings and social justice and depressing emo rap. But it was still way less uptight than this current era, ESPECIALLY 2020. Things like memes, Fortnite, and the Nintendo Switch kept it from being ultra-serious, but the carefree attitudes that defined the early and even mid 2010s were gone.

I think the late 2010s were surreal but not serious. At least in the future I think that’s how it will be remembered as. The late 2010s had cotton candy like music videos juxtaposed with dark and gritty mumble rap coming out at the same time.

Yea very much that except Donald Trump was a bigger laughing stock then Bill Clinton who at the time seemed more like an endearing cool guy despite the Monica Lewinsky controversy. Granted that the time Donald Trump was a very scary figure especially to those who were the victims of his policies and racist jabs, but one generations tragedy is the others source material so I just feel like he’s become sort of a clown despite being a serious menacing figure in American politics in the late 2010s

How was it not serious??? Between the massive Trump backlash and the massive uprise in political protests in 2018/19, the late 2010s are possibly the most serious and critical eras of the century.

I think i should have described it as surreal instead of unserious, but all in all it was just chaotic. It was like a purge movie, yes it was creepy and scary with some cult undertones too it like trump supporters at the time but some of the characters seemed like something out of this world or insanely dumb that you just can’t believe they were real personas.

In terms of being surreal (as you pointed out), absolutely. But unserious is TOTALLY an inaccurate word to use when describing late 2010s culture.
