Both these songs strongly radiate the energy of their decades, even though they didn't come out that far apart from each other

R&B artists like Usher and Ne-Yo abandoning actual R&B for pure pop in the early '10s is an interesting topic that's not talked about enough. R&B artists in the past definitely adapted too, like say Janet Jackson and Jodeci abandoning new jack swing for house/hip hop beats in the mid-90s, but the change here was even more extreme since they changed genre entirely. Rihanna was definitely the biggest chameleon of this era, closely followed by Chris Brown funnily enough. "Kiss Kiss" and "Yeah 3x" couldn't sound more late 00s & early 10s respectively if they tried, yet they only came 3 years apart.

In a nutshell, 2007 is more electro-R&B and rock, while 2011 is more Electropop, if this makes any sense. I did feel a transition from 2008-2010ish with the former slowly being phased out for Electropop.
