How would you divide the sub-eras/phases of this decade so far?
Here’s how I separate the eras of this current decade at the moment.
IMO
The Pre-Covid Phase (January 2020-Early March 2020)
Early COVID Lockdown (March 12th 2020-May 25th 2020)
The Crazy Divisive Summer (May 26th-August 2020)
Election Season (September 2020-Nov 7 2020)
Post Election-Pre Inauguration Phase (Nov 8 2020-January 19 2021)
The Early 2020s PT 1: (Jan/Feb 2021-Jan/Feb 2022)
The Early 2020s PT 2: (Feb 2022-Present)
Let me know your thoughts below. Do you agree? Disagree?

Beta pre 2020 vision
Spring 2019 - January 2020
I would add that in there, in that period we got, Lil Nas X, The end of Game of Thrones and Marvel phase, start of Disney +, start of HBO max, Start of Tik Tok becoming the thing
And you are right about the early 2020s part 2, Something happened around July 2022 which may be the catalyst to another era, this will not be clear fully until years later

It really does feel like the second part of the early 2020s right now with the monkeypox outbreak, high inflation, the War in Ukraine, COVID not being a huge deal anymore, etc.

I can kind of agree with starting a new sub-era with February 2022, with Ukraine-Russia truly changing the focus away from COVID, which led to the mask mandates being abolished. But not gonna lie, this summer has been quite a shift somehow. Not really noticeable now but it might be later on.

I believe that we are still in the Early 2020s. But just a slight bit different from 2021 (especially the first half of 2021).

John I agree with you. Somewhere around April/May 2022, the vibe did feel different. I love when you get into very specific details of the different eras in culture.

There are very few times I have gotten this super subtle vibe. Summer 2001, Summer 04, Summer 97, Spring 93, Fall 2013, Fall 2006 etc. I compare it to slowly getting out of the water in a pool and the droplets are slowly dripping off you, there is still residue but it's clear you are out. Coincidentally new eras follow periods that seem slow as hell ( usually)

The transition from the Late 2010s to the Early 2020s feel so balkanized

The transition from the Late 2010s to the Early 2020s feel so balkanized it really does, but id say the start was Spring 2019 100% No later than May.

The transition from the Late 2010s to the Early 2020s feel so balkanized Right lol. Basically a different vibe for each year 2019-2022 lol. Even in the 2010s each year has a different vibe, I think it's that internet trends come and go a lot faster than trends in the 2000s and earlier.
