The 2000s had the Swine Flu, the 2020s have the Corona Virus. In the 2000s Britney Spears was in the headlines, same as in the 2020. The 2000s had a bunch of "world events" that changed a lot of things in society, so do the 2020s. The 2000s had a lot of war, so do the 2020s. The 2000s didn't have a distinctive "pop culture" and neither does the 2020s (with the whole nostalgia trend going on now). I can go on and on. This decade is nothing like the 2010s (except for the technology) but has a lot of parallels and similarities to the 2000s.

Tbh at the time, I don’t think people even realized those things were going to be distinctive to the decade, also the 2020 equivalent to MySpace is Tiktok.
