Why did the atmosphere turn so dark in 2018?

Why did the atmosphere turn so dark in 2018? it was already heading that way in 2016 but we didn't see the residual pop culture effect for another year and a half. The moody dark atmosphere is best represented by this song btw ( which came out that Spring) Also one thing to ad, that Gen Z fully was being supported and Gen Y's popculture had been phased out a year and a half earlier. The pieces were already in place in 2016 and they just had to press go. People were also getting tired of the fake bland mid 2010s culture that had dominated the years prior as well.
