Hipster was a bigger defining factor for the '10s than grunge and emo were for the '90s and '00s respectively.
Hipsters inspired far more than just a music scene or a fashion sense for edgy teens. It inspired a culture that became a defining factor for entire cities. The hipster decor would define apartment complexes and cafes, and the culture heavily shaped the modern politics of many cities too. Plus, hipster culture being prominent amongst multiple races, while grunge and emo were primarily white phenomenons.
Grunge and emo certainly left their mark on American pop culture, and their influence played a major role in shaping hipster culture, but they were primarily phenomenons amongst edgy white teenagers. The more "popular" kids were listening to the likes of Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, TLC, and Ace of Base in the '90s, and the likes of Beyonce, OutKast, Usher, and the Pussycat Dolls. Also, black youths were most certainly NOT the demographic for grunge or emo.
Wouldn't have been saying this 5 years ago, but in retrospect, the '10s has a far more consistent aesthetic than either the '90s or '00s do.

The title of this thread wasn't even the argument though.

U said hipster was not the def culture of the 2010s in another thread That's not what I said. "No I'm not wrong" "People will forget it even existed. Kind of like how people forgot emo existed in the 2000s. It wasn't that big like other trends from past decades."

I think the “popular” kids would listen to stuff like Fall Out Boy and Nirvana. They just don’t identify with the movements from their respective decades.

The title of this thread is "Hipster the defining sub culture of 2010s ?"
I said:

So I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. This thread has nothing to do with my argument.
