With the recent obsession over the Wednesday Netflix show, I recently discovered there was an animated TV show of the Addams Family released in the 70s by Hanna-Barbera:
Having watched a couple episodes it just represents everything I don't like about 70s animated series: the canned laughter is obnoxious, the writing is wooden, the animation is stilted and really supbar, and it's frankly in general pretty boring. It tries to and fails to be the new freaking Scooby-Doo like so many series back then. (Also I can't get over how Wednesday is a sweet shy girl in this incarnation).
Hanna-Barbera actually also released a new Family Addams series in the 90s, and it's vastly superior to the old one. It's much more lively, it's wackier, funnier and in general much more enjoyable despite being older now than the 70s incarnation was back then.
This comparison actually highlights very well how much animated series have improved in 20 years time in my opinion!
