I'm not talking about platforms since that's very superficial and most of the platforms are so similar to each other. Tik Tok is literally the same concept as Vine which was a popular social media platform in the mid 2010s. The general way we consume social media hasn't changed at all since the early 2010s. I thought we would be fully immersed in VR by now but we aren't. I see the current social media era we are in as the second era. The first era was the Mid 2000s to Early 2010s with social media consumption being completely web-based, something you consumed on an actual physical computer, with no mobile in mind. For example MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube were all like this in the late 2000s. But then we hit the second era of social media in the early 2010s, where the focus was on mobile apps. So then we got things like Instagram, Snap Chat, and now Tik Tok. We are currently still in that same era now. I think the next 3rd era will be VR/AR based, not sure when that will be though, maybe in a few more years.
