Let me give a little backstory for this thread.
Back in December 2022 I went to this meet up event. Pretty much everyone there is in their 20s-30s. So after doing some karaoke, we went to this bar. And at some point some of the people started revealing their ages. One of the guys was 27 and another was 31. When the 31 year old guy revealed his age, the 27 year old guy was surprised he looked so young and said "I hope I still look young at 31.". This surprised me, because from my point of view, 27 and 31 are in the same age group. And I'd imagine most people would agree with me. I don't think most people would be able to tell the average 27 year old and the average 31 year old apart. If we were talking about a 21 year old and a 31 year old that would be a different story. But upper 20s and lower 30s are basically in the same age bracket. Heck most age demographics group 25-34 together or 26-35, or whatever.
Am I in the minority for thinking this? Are most people really this analytical about age? Or is the guy in question just socially-awkward/over-analytical?

In my experience, the only occasions where people are over-analytical about age is when they're talking about it light-heartedly.
I used to receive comments like that all the time. I'm the oldest of my friends and back when we were all in high school, I used to get comments from my 2000-born friends about being 'old' for being born in a different century. I've also received similar comments from older workmates. It's just something that happens and a lot of the time people do it to 'break the ice' in an awkward/tense situation.
As for what happened at the bar you went to, it's kind of hard to comment about it without knowing the context and being there in person. The comment that 27 year-old guy made sounds like it was just an awkward attempt at complimenting the other guy. Either that, or it was only meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I used to say similar things like that to my former 36-year-old co-worker. I would make fun of him about his age and say it with a straight face, but both he and I know that it was only meant to be a joke. There are exceptions though of course. Maybe that guy genuinely did believe that 31 seems a lot older than this own age? Who knows.
Generally speaking though, most people don't care about age and aren't over-analytical about it at all.

Yeah I get if it was meant to be a compliment or tongue-in-cheek. But the issue is that 27 and 31 are literally in the same age group. I think the guy was just a weirdo who thinks 31 is much older than 27, even though I'd imagine most people would agree with me that both are in the same age range.
