I'm not sure if its a hot take but I've seen people say that Pony by Ginuwine was the first "2000s" sounding song but it does not sound 2000s to me at all. It doesn't sound quite mid 90s but it's late 90s at best. The vocals sound 90s af, the drum rhythm is too slow and not syncopated enough to be 2000s, and the synths in the pre-chorus and chorus screams 90s. I don't really see it being released past the year 2000.

It's a cool track and a fascinating early look into Timbaland's style. The issue is that it was released around the same time as "One in A Million", also produced by Timbaland, which in my opinion sounds way more futuristic and forward thinking than the silly "Pony".

I'm not going to lie pony doesn't really sound that 90s to me it sounds like it could have been released anywhere between 2002-2006 it would fit perfectly
